Beaches

Cornwall has some of the best beaches in the country and many of them are near Bodmin.  From the wide and long expanse of Perranporth, the surfing mecca,  Polzeath or for quieter coves head south to The Rosleand – which is simply stunning. The north and south coast of Cornwall is just a twenty minute drive from Bodmin.

Regularly topping the best beaches in Cornwall is Perranporth, with a long expanse of sand – as it is a lifeguard patrolled it’s safe for swimming and surfing – plus there are some great lunch spots nearby.

If you are an experienced surfer then head up to Constantine Bay on the north coast. The water quality is frequently tested but there are strong rip tides and hidden rocks – so it really is only for those who know what they are doing on a board. For the less adventurous among us it is a lovely beach to explore  with lots of rock pools at low tide. Other great surfing beaches include Sennen Cove,  which is Cornwall’s most westerly surfing beach.

The beaches of the South Coast tend to have a little more protection from the larger waves and are great for couples and families looking for a more relaxed excursion.

Check out some of our favourite beaches below, most of which accept dogs year-round or at certain times of the day or year only.  Some of these have good parking, café or toilet facilities. If you require further information, speak to Reception, who would be more than happy to share local knowledge.

beach safety

Safety – we all love the beach, but need to be mindful of our safety.  Ensure you review safety notices at the beaches and follow the guidance regarding any swimming.  You can check the tide times here before you set off so that you get to the beach when it is at its best.  You can also check which of the beaches have lifeguards here.

Not all beaches feature lifeguards.  Be careful when walking among rocks, and caution is advised around any cliff faces.

Alternatively, check with our Hotel Team and we’ll be happy to help you plan your day trip.
