A closer Look…

history

Once a prestigious office within Bodmin Jail, the Chaplain’s Office played a unique and poignant role in the prison’s history, overlooking the hanging pit and bearing witness to the final moments of condemned prisoners. Even after executions moved indoors in 1868 to ensure greater privacy, the Chaplain remained closely connected to these solemn events.

Today, the Lounge Bar occupies this historic space, where a rich and haunting past now gives way to comfort, character and reflection.
